Dormouse Boxes and Nest Tubes were introduced to the reserve during the spring of 2009

Dormouse Boxes
~
A 2008 survey, carried out by Michael Woods Associates, showed that Dormice are resident on the reserve. The Dormouse population and it's activity will be monitored with the help of 30 Dormouse Boxes fitted to branches of trees and shrubs.

Fitting the boxes
~
During March 30 wooden boxes were numbered and wired, in groups, to trees and shrubs in seven locations around the reserve. The boxes were expertly made by Pont Woodcrafts, Woodfieldside Business Park in Blackwood which provides vocational training and work opportunities for people with learning disabilities.

Nest Tubes
~
At the beginning of April 18 Nest Tubes, made from corrugated plastic sheet and wood, were numbered and placed around the reserve to cover areas without Dormouse Boxes.
