Water features - New Pond

Water features include a Pond, New Pond, Scrapes and a Winter Wetland providing perfect conditions for a wide variety of flora and fauna. These habitats are complimented by the Meadow & Grassland and Woodlland areas. (Unprecedented flooding Winter 2012/13)

New Pond

Originally dug in 2003 the New Pond was enlarged in 2007. Mostly covered with Lesser Duckweed for the later part of the year the New Pond is an important habitat for aquatic insects, frogs and newts. Ragged Robin, Kingcup, Brooklime and Flag Iris thrive on the banks and in the shallows.

Pond Assessments
~
An assesment of the pond was carried out by Friends of Howardian LNR in April 2011. Creatures found and identified during the assessment included four Palmate Newts, Newt larva, Caddis Fly larva, Flat Worms, Leeches and Snails.
